:banghead: Can anyone out there suggest ways to modify an underpowered Merz E-200 model W210 year 1998. Its manual transmission. I can feel its slightly underpowered when at standstill to climb a steep slope especially at traffic lights junction,
All suggestions on modifications, where & cost welcomed!

Before the jokers rush in and tell you to change K&N air filter, put cold air intake, change exhaust system. I'll tell you don't waste your time. Its not going to be worth anything given the weight of the W210. Curb weight 1.7 tonnes. On paper 134 bhp and 190nM (19.35 kg-M) torque, and over the years some horses died.

Toyota Vios Turbo: Killing Boredom
Here's a dyno of a W210 with the 2.4L V6 Engine, 137bhp and 17.89kg-M torque, compared to 168 bhp and 225nM (22.95kg-M) when new. So dead horses and tranny loss is about ~20%

Using ~20% as tranny loss & dead horses correction, your car would make about 107.2bhp & 15.48kg-M on wheels. Keeping in mind the car is 1.7 tonnes, even at 137 bhp, its a waste of time. To tune your car to 137 bhp is an increase of 27.8%. Natural aspiration tuning to gain 27% is very expensive. And even then, its still slow -- remember, the car is heavy!

For comparison sake
Power to weight ratio (higher is better, more hp per lbs)
Your W210: 0.0283528292
2.4L V6 W210 in the dyno: 0.0362344925
Myvi 1.3L: 0.0319632958
Dyno for Myvi: http://www.strombergpowerbooster.com/ifc/images/myvispecvonwheel.jpg
Proton Gen2 CPS: 0.0405282939
Dyno for Gen2 CPS: http://images.paultan.org/images2/Proton_GEN2_Campro_CPS_Dyno_Chart_Large.jpg

Even IF you successfully modify your 2L to the performance levels of the 2.4L V6 engine, it is still pathetic and waste of time, and the makcik in the Gen2 CPS will have more power from standstill climbing the slope and you'll still look like a snail.

If you want it to be significant to make a difference and not "underpowered". Slap a turbo or supercharger on it, or swap in one of the AMG mills. Otherwise, don't waste time, get the new CGI or CDI Mercedes.. it'll change your perception about power.

on my perception..

previously my dad own a 230e w124.. perhaps the pick up is quite lousy. but it have the grunt at high speed.

then he upgrade to e280 w210. the pick up is hardly comparable to my perdana v6. maybe weight is the main reason.

if i was you. i'll overhaul the engine to can gain back all the lost power. and enjoy the comfort and built quality of this old tank.! :adore:

Aiya.. it's a Merc from the generation where they made them indestructable. Plonk in a 2jz and spend all the money on modding the 2jz. Hehehehe.. Probably would be cheaper to buy a new car though.

no need to overhaul if the engine is healthy...why spend money on it? just enjoy the cruise and comfort in it.

I'm no merc expert but since the 2.3l kompressor came from the same family rite? the "E230 Kompressor" model. from spec it look healthy @ 197 PS (145 kW; 194 hp) and 280 N·m (207 lb·ft ( found here ) and since came within the same family should be PnP... :hmmmm:

Although it's performance is not as high as the venerable 2JZ-GTE (even 1JZ-GTE), but 280 N·m sounds about right... my 2 sen la

Forgive my geekiness :adore:

Yep agree with papagiones, swap with a latter kompressor engine...just find a reliable mechanic.

Hi there,

I am planning for the following Yokohama tyres for my 2 cars, one using 195.55.15 and another is 180.60.14

After some research online and offline, found that Advan Neova AD07 only have size for my 195.55.15 while AVS ES100 have sizes of both.

Also known that the UTQG for AD07 is 180 AA A and ES100 is 280 AA A. If I am going to take AD07 for the 15" and ES 100 for the 14", would this be my good choices?

Need your experiences on both tyres model in terms of dry, wet, treadwear...
