hi guys, i'm trying to get some number for timings at Sepang.

namely,
Manual/Auto FWD NA/FI
Manual/Auto RWD NA/FI
Manual/Auto AWD NA/FI

for the DSG people, i would put them under the manual section, but with a note that states DSG.

i remember the timing for manual FWD cars doing around the 2:40s mark. which i think has gone under that number.

so, please try to help out and fill in the numbers.

thanks!

got some number via http://www.zerotohundred.com/2008/a...-attack-2008-round-1-sepang-circuit-malaysia/
but they are mostly AWD monsters. keke.

looking more for the typical daily drive, some autos etc..

Turn 5
my daily driven car which is a FF setup non turbo, fitted with Tien flex running on a REOO1 can get around 2.47-2.48 on track. i'm confident i can shed more seconds if im using better tyres and lighten the car a lil bit.

i'm still learning and hopefully can improve the timing further.

2 40 for fwd is typically done by a N/A track car with slicks.
would be very respectable to do that with a street car on street tyres

here's a rough guide if you really wanna know...

MSS spec super16 civics (1600cc max) with silverstone T5 slicks do 2:40 to 2:33

Honda Malaysia MME spec civic (K20A) with michelin slicks did a 2:22 (Honda Japan factory test driver)

Porsche RSR - michelin slicks................ 2:10 on a bad day

the MSS n MME civic are not really street cars right?

they are fully prep, ie: stripped out interiors, full slicks, rollcage, etc.

the Porsche RSR does a 2:10 on a bad day? that's rocketing fast!

i was trying to stress that 2:40 with a FWD street car is very very very very difficult to do..
which is why when you said its gone below 2:40...
i was trying to say.. not really...

hi cgloh,

got it. thanks.

the sub 2:40 timing is then the target for the FWD street cars to beat. i remember last time it was 2:50, then 2:45-2:47. ..

in any case, i'm expecting them to be using semi-slicks to achieve this 2:40 n below timing.
o, quite a few guys do use semi-slick for their everyday street car. ie: R888, A048, etc.

zuoom...

there are alot of DOT approved tyres now that can do the job well when it comes to track days.
i believe it is quite possible to achieve mid 35s with those tyres. Silverstone unfortunately makes a terrible slick tyre which we have to use.

the most important thing about using street tyres on the race track is to make sure that the pressure is correct at all times.. if you've overheated the tyre.. its actually quite dangerous to use it on the street.
i also think alot of people use the wrong spring rates or worse.. don;t know what spring rates they are using.. alot of street cars come either too soft or too hard (yes..some use spring rates that are harder than our race car).

keep in mind that its a compromise when you bring a street car to the track.. the point is to go out and have fun and then go home without your girlfriends tits sagging to the ground.

here's what i've driven:

1) DC5 with TODA storker on GoodYear soft compound + TEIN 2:47. Managed to shed abother 2 sec off after LSD.

2) STOCK E46 M3 SMGII on 19" PSS9 on Conti Sport with Alcon 6 front: 2:43, good traffic and weather.

3) Stock Evo 8 MR on 17" stock Bilstein GoodYear soft coumpound : 2:42, good traffic and weather

4) GTR34/500bhp with street absorber and lowering springs, front Ykohama Db silent street tyres, rear with Advan Neova, front 6 Grex, only managed to 2:40ish. Will test the car again coming 17th with proper tyres and suspension.

cheers.

good to know 2:40 is hard to do for street cars. so 2:50-3:00 must be pretty decent for a standard road car. fully loaded with rear seats n spare tyre. n passanger.
