Spare parts availability...

Hi,

I was wondering, how long do you guys think the spare parts for r34 will be available? The car now is at least 7 years old (???).

10-15 years from now, do u think there will be any spare parts? Or would most of you dispose (is this blasphemy?) your car before it happened?

Just curious...

All the parts are available on the internet and logistic now a days is a beauty! You can received your order in less than 3 weeks (in most cases), those are heavy and big items gonna takes you about 1 to 2 months to arrived Malaysia. So, you still think that parts is an issue here and does this solved your curiosity??

LoL
just how they still make parts for even the ae86. to think that they'll stop making R34 GTR parts is kinda silly. LoL
hence the yearly edition of the Hyper Rev GTR RB26dett. [this year none though. :( ]

Nismo, at the risk of sounding idealistic (and naive), if im lucky enough to own a skyline, most likely i'd like to keep it for as long as possible. you see all these old datsuns and minis running around, i sometimes wonder if they still use original spare parts - and these are more than 30 year old cars. In the future, would skyline prove to be a "classic" car that transcends time - thus will always have the support structure that keeps it running on the streets?

Just off tangent a bit, what would be the circumstances where you would actually part with ur dearly beloved (the car i mean heheheh)? Some reasons that i've read in this forum:

1. car stolen
2. wife nag ;)
3. growing family - MPV required
4. ....

i guess my so called concern/question is...how long would you keep the car? :)

When you say spare parts, really what are you referring to specifically? Or you mean in general for monthly servicing, etc?

Obviously certain items are more readily available than others and the thing about Nissan and I'm sure other manufacturers as well is the common practice of using parts from different models (ie: an S13 using a GTR stock fuel pump, etc) as a replacement and usually fit without too much work.

That's before taking into consideration the product offerings by the after market tuners. If you had a stock GTR and wanted to upgrade, the amount of parts available from Jap/Aus/NZ/UK/US tuners alone will drive you crazy. It's that extensive. From a simple fuel pump to suspension to engine internals to a common gear knob to carbon bonnets - what you want is probably available.

But don't overlook the $$$ aspect of owning a GTR which can be a pretty tidy sum as it ages.

As for your second question, I don't plan on selling my car anytime soon. I dream of owning an R32GTR but I realize it's not the smartest thing to do. The R35 is slowly growing on me as time passes and once I persuade DC to sell me one cheap cheap, then who knows. But I see myself owning GTRs in the future, if finances permit more than one.

pimpin...yeah parts for general servicing. For the most part, i was thinking of the ER34. But you have convinced me that, yes, the car, if and when i'm fortunate enough to get one, has a future in my driveway hahahahahah...

Ah, the idealism of youth!

The honest truth is, circumstances and personal taste changes... I've owned 2 skylines and once I thought the Skyline would be the final car for me, not anymore.

Back to topic, one great thing about Japanese performance cars is that parts are practically NEVER a problem to obtain.

haha. dude, just get the R34.
once u've driven it u won't have anymore doubt in ur mind bout it. (except changin to a GTR :wavey:)
life is such in malaysia that some things suck(such as reintel has pointed out that customs are just money grabbing mother fuckers)
but then again, when u have only one life(unless ur hindu), shitty things don't actually matter. wife n kids can wait. but drivin a skyline (no matter if its ER or GTR), has always been the things on the list of 'Things to do b4 i die' for most people.
trust me on this one. once u own a skyline, u will never turn back and say 'damn, i wish i never bought a skyline' cos next best thing to winning a millions dollars is driving a skyline to the maximum of it's capabilities.
trust me. i deal with irritating patients everyday and the skyline the reason i have survived this far. :D
