Competing cars running with BFGoodrich Tires had an awesome weekend with drivers pushing their tires to the limits and coming out tops in the Pro-Grass category. The weather did not only overheat the drivers but some cars as well. </p><p>Article: GRA<br>Photos: ZEY TEE &amp; Sean Chua</p><p><img border="0" src="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/small/GRA_2007_R3-12.jpg" width="500" height="333"></p><p>A total of 97 cars competed in the 3rd Round of the GRA Autocross Championships. Sponsored by BFGoodrich Tires along with partners Red Line Oil, Meguiar’s and Arospeed, the scorching sun did not provide any chance for the drivers to cool down. Clerk of the Course, Ian Khong made the layout highly technical this time around for the Pro Grass drivers, with no marking cones and drivers had to rely solely on their memory for the track layout. </p><p><img border="0" src="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/small/GRA_2007_R3-134.jpg" width="500" height="333"></p><p>Grass Class was held in the morning session, which comprises of novice drivers. More than 50% of the entries this round was totally new to the sport of autocrossing. In the Grass Class A ( up to 1300cc ), Chan Hoh in his stock Kelisa won 1st followed by Round 2 winner Kenneth Chiew, and Alven in a Perodua Kelisa. In Class B ( 1301cc-1600cc ), Kenneth Chiew emerged tops in a borrowed Honda Civic from Kylie whereby she emerged as the fastest lady of the day and taking 3rd spot in the same Class. 2nd place in Class B went to the very yellow faithful Honda Civic EF of Khian Hock which belongs to his wife. </p><p><img border="0" src="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/small/GRA_2007_R3-150.jpg" width="500" height="333"></p><p>In Class C ( 1601cc-2000cc ), Jason Foo piloting a borrowed Satria GTI took 1st with Dennis in a Satria GTI taking 2nd spot again. Dennis has been 2nd numerous times and is still waiting to grab 1st place from Jason this year. Shannen was kind enough to loan his Satria GTi to Jason once again, and this is the third time that Shannen has taken 4th spot with Jason occupying 1st three times this year. Victor Lim a novice driver in the only Ford Lynx RS Automatic in the class emerged 3rd. This was Victor’s second race and being on podium with an automatic car proves that it is not just all about the car. <br><br>For Class D ( 2001cc-2500cc ), Damion in a decked out Arospeed Honda Accord emerged top spot with Jack Tan coming in 2nd with his Honda Prelude H22A and Huzlan in a Turbo Charged SmartForTwo taking 3rd. This is the first time a SmartForTwo has taken part in the series, and a first podium finish for it. Huzlan led for most of the day till the last run whereby Damion managed to overtake Huzlan for the lead. </p><p><img border="0" src="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/small/GRA_2007_R3-183.jpg" width="500" height="333"></p><p>In Class E ( 2501cc &amp; Above ), Ray in his Nissan 200SX emerged 1st with Mike driving a Nissan S15 coming in 2nd with Gary in a Mitsubishi Evolution 7 in 3rd. Ray also won the ‘Bling Bling Award’ for having the best decals for the day. The other ‘Bling Bling’ award for the most awesome paint job went to Ricky in his Toyota 1st Gen MR2. <br><br>The Pro-Grass drivers were out on the course in the hot afternoon. The weather really took a toll on the drivers as well as the marshals as they dug deep for strength and stamina. During the practice runs, Ivan Khong and Julian Pang seeded first and second respectively drove continuously round the course searching for the right course. It was not as easy this time around with the marked cones removed. After a few mistakes they finally got their runs sorted out. <br><br>In Class OA ( Below 1300cc ), Kenneth Chiew participating in both Grass &amp; Pro-Grass Classes had an awesome outing winning the class followed closely by Chan Yau Koon from Team Red Line and Clement Chan in their Kelisas. In Class OB ( 1301cc-1600cc ), Galen Lai emerged 1st with novice driver Jason Foo in 2nd and Chris Chin in 3rd. For Class OC ( 1601cc-2000cc ), Soo from Kuantan driving his Honda EG emerged 1st with Gareth taking 2nd spot and Julian Pang in 3rd. In the Class OD ( Beyond 2000cc ), Ivan Khong in his Subaru Impreza was unmatchable taking 1st place with Mickey in 2nd and Andy Kow in another Subaru in 3rd. Mickey and Andy both suffered overheating problems with their cars, and could not push any further to surpass Ivan. “ The race is getting tough each round, I have a small lead in the championships now and I hope to maintain it till the final race “, explains Ivan. Ivan will carry the No.1 position to the next round in November this year. In Overall Championship standings, Ivan still leads from Mickey trailing in second followed by Soo in third. </p><p><img border="0" src="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/small/GRA_2007_R3-14.jpg" width="500" height="333"><br><br>One of the most interesting classes was the Grass Class F whereby it comprises of Automatic cars up to 1600cc. There were a total of 12 cars for this round, and William in a Suzuki Swift grabbed top spot with Tim in a Kancil Turbo and Adam in a GEN2 coming in 2nd and 3rd respectively. This is a category that would eventually grow in the coming rounds. <br><br>“ BFGoodrich Tires will continue to grow grassroots and together with GRA, we can see that there are more active partners now, which will help this sport and community grow “, explains Mr. Ronald Sutardja General Manager of BFGoodrich Tires. <br><br>“ The GRA community is getting bigger steadily, you will see that our community is helping us pack, unpack, marshal the race, and even doing the start order. Everyone chips in, it’s amazing, racing should be fun and friendly, and this is why we work really hard to make GRA where it is today “, explains Jiannin, CEO Of GRA. <br><br>Mr. Howard Goh of Red Line Oil and Arospeed explains, “ …today is really a hot day, but we are all here together enjoying it “.<br><br>Mr. Johan Wong and Ms. Esther Lim from Meguiar’s said, “.the racing here is fun yet serious, we always lend a helping hand to Ian &amp; Jiannin on race day. Over here everyone chips in, it’s not about who does what, it’s about let’s do it together“. <br><br>The race ended just around 5pm, with the final closure of GRA with their cheer and a group photo. The BFGoodrich Tires, Red Line Oil &amp; Meguiar’s Race Queens were in action right after, with the sun finally being replaced by dark clouds. <br><br>Lookout for Round 4 in November 2007, for further details log onto www.grassracingautosports.com</p><p><a href="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/DSC09703.JPG"><img border="1" src="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/DSC09703_small.JPG" xthumbnail-orig-image="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/DSC09703.JPG"></a> <a href="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/GRA_2007_R3-12.jpg"><img border="1" src="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/GRA_2007_R3-12_small.jpg" xthumbnail-orig-image="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/GRA_2007_R3-12.jpg"></a> <a href="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/GRA_2007_R3-14.jpg"><img border="1" src="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/GRA_2007_R3-14_small.jpg" xthumbnail-orig-image="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/GRA_2007_R3-14.jpg"></a> <a href="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/GRA_2007_R3-29.jpg"><img border="1" src="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/GRA_2007_R3-29_small.jpg" xthumbnail-orig-image="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/GRA_2007_R3-29.jpg"></a> <a href="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/GRA_2007_R3-58.jpg"><img border="1" src="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/GRA_2007_R3-58_small.jpg" xthumbnail-orig-image="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/GRA_2007_R3-58.jpg"></a> <a href="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/GRA_2007_R3-71.jpg"><img border="1" src="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/GRA_2007_R3-71_small.jpg" xthumbnail-orig-image="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/GRA_2007_R3-71.jpg"></a> <a href="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/GRA_2007_R3-109.jpg"><img border="1" src="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/GRA_2007_R3-109_small.jpg" xthumbnail-orig-image="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/GRA_2007_R3-109.jpg"></a> <a href="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/GRA_2007_R3-126s.jpg"><img border="1" src="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/GRA_2007_R3-126s_small.jpg" xthumbnail-orig-image="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/GRA_2007_R3-126s.jpg"></a> <a href="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/GRA_2007_R3-134.jpg"><img border="1" src="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/GRA_2007_R3-134_small.jpg" xthumbnail-orig-image="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/GRA_2007_R3-134.jpg"></a> <a href="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/GRA_2007_R3-150.jpg"><img border="1" src="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/GRA_2007_R3-150_small.jpg" xthumbnail-orig-image="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/GRA_2007_R3-150.jpg"></a> <a href="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/GRA_2007_R3-158.jpg"><img border="1" src="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/GRA_2007_R3-158_small.jpg" xthumbnail-orig-image="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/GRA_2007_R3-158.jpg"></a> <a href="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/GRA_2007_R3-183.jpg"><img border="1" src="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/GRA_2007_R3-183_small.jpg" xthumbnail-orig-image="http://www.zerotohundred.com/features/september/gra/GRA_2007_R3-183.jpg"></a></p>
