Just stay 18. If want to look better then change to wider 9jj rims and 255/40 tires. But since he's concern about noise then better stay stock size but I don't know what tires are silent coz I never really care for that aspect.

255/40/19 tyres will cost a lot for a piece. That kind of width seems a bit too over for his 180hp turbo 320i. Not that the car requires such extra amount of grip.

Bro. 6UE5t post 255/40 is for 18" not 19".....:driver:
I see. I got it wrong earlier. My friend asked me about Pirelli as well. Any opinions compared to Yokohama dB V551? For Pirelli, I think that will probably be Cinturato P7 as P-Zero may not be suitable...

Cinturato P7 should be ok almost like Michelin P3ST, but not the P7 all seasons.
P zero are UHP so should be noisier.....

My friend asked me if there is anything that he can do to reduce tyre road noise level in his car. Currently he is using 225/45/18 Good Year Eagle Efficient Grip tyres for this car. These are the tyres that came stock with the car. He points out that the tyre road noise is quite noticeable when driving at higher speed. So, is there other tyres that can be recommended for him to further reduce the road noise?

He said he is considering to increase the tyre sidewall profile but I told him that might cause him to scrape his tyres against the fenders.
Tell ur friend to be very careful when choosing other tyre brand to replace the GY EfficientGrip. Because his current tyre is already among the quietest tyre available in market today.

Maybe I should just ask him to try Yokohama dB series.

I'm not sure is it that the tyre is noisy or the car is too quiet which makes road noise quite noticeable. I've sat on his car before and around speeds like 80kmh and above, tyre road noise can be heard quite clearly. Engine and wind noise is quiet on his car, so all that is left is the tyre road noise.

I think I found one reason for the noisy road noise. This is because the tyres are actually run flats.

Yes. I think so. GY EfficientGrip RFT type one. Some europe forum also complaining about this tyre noise and harsness due to stiffer sidewall. Also on same car F30.

Price is expensive as well. I've just checked and it costs like RM1.5k a piece.

So, now if my friend changes to any normal rubber tyres, road noise should be reduced?

If his is with RFT tyres, means no spare, so if change to normal tyres better get repair kit ready....

I better tell him this when he change to normal tyres.

So, now that the noise is actually due to run flat tyres, then I guess the noise is still lower even if he changes to UHP tyres like P7 Cinturato?

He can try Continental Conti Seal tyres also. Not same as Runflat that have harder sidewall, as these are self sealing tyres....:driver:
But the tyre models might not be quiet type pattern....
